About Repo Gacha
Repo Gacha is a free browser game. Every card is a real, public GitHub repository: the frameworks you depend on, the tutorials you starred and never opened, the abandoned side projects that still have more stars than yours, and the gloriously pointless ones that exist purely because someone found it funny. You pull them, collect them, build a Stack and send it into automatic battles that read like incident reports.
Why it exists
Developers already treat GitHub stars like trading cards. We just printed the cards. The game is a love letter to
open source with a roast stapled to it: every card gets a one-liner that teases the project, its fans or the reader,
never the people who maintain it. The jokes punch at the ecosystem we all live in, from node_modules the size of
a small moon to the issue tracker that has its own weather.
How the cards are made
Card stats come from public repository metadata: stars set ATK, repository size sets DEF, and a few attributes such as language, package ecosystem and age decide which combos a card can join. A small set of cards are hand-made "golden" cards with their own artwork and skills, and a growing set have hand-drawn meme art and custom jokes. No code from the repositories is copied into the game, and no card art uses project logos.
Why it's free
Repo Gacha is free-first. There are no paid packs, no premium currency and no "limited banner" pressure. You get 30 free pulls a day, and that's the whole economy. To pay for hosting we plan to show ads at some point, but ads are not active today, and when they arrive they will never interrupt a card reveal or appear inside a shared image. The privacy page will be updated before anything changes.
No accounts
There is nothing to sign up for. Your collection, your Stack and your daily pull count live in your own browser. We never ask for your GitHub account and the game never talks to GitHub on your behalf.
Not affiliated with GitHub
Repo Gacha is an independent fan project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by GitHub, or by any of the projects, companies or people whose repositories appear on cards. Project names belong to their owners and are used only to describe public repositories.
For maintainers
If a card about your project is wrong, out of date, or you'd simply rather not be in the game, email [email protected] with the repository URL. We'll correct or remove the card in the next pool update, no questions asked. We'd also love to hear if you like your card.
